A Circuit Gilles Villeneuve crane-staff employee, probably waiting for victims, takes a moment to photograph a Ferrari roaring through the Senna Corner at the start of Formula One practice Friday morning.

Why does a Formula One car sound so angry on a glorious, sunny day in Montreal?
The F1 cars are on the track at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, in their first of two 90-minute practice sessions that will probably mean nothing tomorrow when they’re back on what’s expected to be a wet track for qualifying.
Updates to come during the day, which includes the presence of support-race cars in F-1600, Ferrari Challenge, Historic Grand Prix and Porsche IMSA GT3 Cup series.

With the reveal of the U.S.-market Cayenne diesel in the rearview mirror, we’ve learned that Europeans will get a higher-performance diesel Cayenne in the near future. The Cayenne S diesel will pack a V-8 instead of the regular Cayenne diesel’s V-6, and output should far exceed the six’s 240 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. It’s still unclear which engine Porsche will use for this model. The diesel V-8 currently in the corporate storehouse is a 4.2-liter unit; in the Audi A8, it makes 346 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. This is not the freshest engine, however, and with rumors Bentley may include a diesel option in its cars in the future, a next-gen engine could be in development.
We can say for certain that this SUV will not come to the U.S., as building it to comply with U.S. emissions and crash standards would cost millions upon millions of dollars and would yield just a small number of sales. Porsche already has three models that cost a fortune to develop and sell in relatively small numbers—they’re called the 911, Boxster, and Cayman—so this Cayenne S diesel isn’t happening here. Speaking of which, we’ve been told that although the upcoming Porsche Macan small crossover will offer diesel engines in Europe, it will be gasoline-only in the States.
